Head Start LF

Beef cattle starter feed.

Feeding Directions

Head Start LF is a versatile feed for stressed (weaning and/or starting) calves. It is a specially formulated product that provides proper levels of energy, protein, vitamins and minerals for stressed calves when used as a complete feed for lightweight feeder calves or when limit-fed with forage to larger (500-650 pound) calves.

Head Start LF should be bunk fed at the rate of 5.0 to 7.0 pounds per head per day. Head Start LF should not be fed in a self-feeder.

Calves less than 400 pounds:

Head Start LF is formulated such that it can be fed as a complete feed to both early-weaned beef calves and young dairy-beef calves. In an effort to minimize management problems, calves should be offered good quality hay along with Head Start LF. Calves should have equal access so that the total ration composition (proportion of Head Start LF to hay) is consistent each day.

Calves 500 to 650 Pounds:

For this size cattle, Head Start LF is designed to be fed with good quality grass hay at a rate of 5-7 lbs./hd/day. Head Start LF should be bunk-fed and evenly distributed in the bunk with adequate space for all calves to have equal access at time of feeding.
