Head Start
Beef cattle starter feed.
Feeding Directions
Head Start is especially designed to be fed when starting cattle in the feedlot. It combines roughage, grain and supplement in a total ration.
Gradually adjust animals to full feed of Head Start. The target feeding rate should be 10 to 15 pounds per head per day depending on animal size. In an effort to minimize management problems, cattle on full feed may receive approximately 10% good quality grass hay in the ration.
Dividing the daily feed into two equal feedings is suggested. It is strongly recommended that this product be bunk fed. Adapting cattle to self-feeders requires additional management to reduce risk of bloat and other digestive disturbances. Because of this, self-feeding is a producer risk.
After the starting period, cattle should be switched to the roughage, grain and supplement which will be used for the balance of the feeding period. Contact your local CHS nutrition consultant for assistance in planning a feeding program to meet your specific needs.
